HC Deb 27 July 1978 vol 954 cc936-7W
Mr. Buchan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of the time spent by the fishery protection vessel "Brenda" during the last six weeks has been spent on investigating possible illegal salmon netting in Lewis and Harris; how many nets have been confiscated; and at what estimated cost.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown

During the six weeks ended 25th July FPV "Brenda" spent seven and a half days on inshore patrols off Lewis and Harris. The purpose of these patrols was the prevention and detection of illegal trawling and other fisheries offences as well as illegal salmon netting. Three gill nets containing salmon were seized.

The cost of operating FPV "Brenda" is approximately £650 per day.
