HC Deb 27 July 1978 vol 954 c883W
Sir Bernard Braine

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether his current inquiries into the carriage of dangerous substances on public highways will extend to the implications of the carriage of such substances on railways, rivers, canals and in the estuaries; and, if not, whether he will open discussions with the appropriate authorities in order to devise a safety scheme embracing all methods of transport.

Mr. William Rodgers

I am informed by the chairman of the Health and Safety Commission that current inquiries and discussions with industry concentrate on the transport by road of hazardous substances. Other modes of transport will be considered subsequently with the object of producing co-ordinated regulations.
