asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what has been the total cost of running the Commission for Racial Equality including all main constituent costs such as expenditure on its own programmes, wages, rent, heating, lighting and maintenance in the last 12 months for which figures are available; and what are the projected costs for 1978–79.

The total cost of running the Commission for Racial Equality from 13th June, 1977—when it came into full operation—to 31st March, 1978 was £3,150,000. The approved estimates of expenditure of the Commission for Racial Equality for the financial year 1978–79 are £4,747,000.
