§ 20. Mr. Sainsburyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what the income limit for full entitlement to age allowance would now be if it had been increased in step with the cost of living since April 1974.
§ Mr. Joel BarnettAge allowance was introduced in 1975 and was a substantial improvement on the age exemption which preceded it. If comparison is made with age exemption, the equivalent of the April 1974 exemption limits, above which full entitlement to the exemptions started to be withdrawn, would be £1,485 for a single person, and £2,145 for a married man. The current income limit for age allowance is £4,000.
