§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Trade what is the agreed quota figure for imported knitted shirts from Greece for 1978; and how many knitted shirts from Greece have been imported so far in 1978.
§ Mr. MeacherThe EEC Commission secured assurances from representatives of the Greek textile industry that their exports of knitted shirts to the United Kingdom in 1978 would not exceed 955,000 pieces. In the first five months of 1978, as a result of the absence of a safeguards clause in the EEC-Greece agreement, United Kingdom imports amounted to 2,181,000 pieces. The Commission has therefore imposed quantitative restrictions on imports of this product into the United Kingdom as from 7th July.
