§ Q55. Sir David Rentonasked the Prime Minister whether he is satisfied with arrangements made between the Secretaries of State for Defence and for the Environment and housing authorities for the allocation of council houses to ex-Service men at the end of their terms of Service.
§ The Prime MinisterThe allocation of council houses is entirely within the discretion of local authorities. However, the Department of the Environment Circular 54/75 urged local authorities to recognise the difficulties which retiring Service men may face, and my right hon. Friends seek every opportunity to underline that advice.
