§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the total sum allocated to secondary school building in the Macclesfield parliamentary constituency in each of the last five years.
§ Miss Margaret JacksonMy Department does not maintain records of school building allocations by reference to parliamentary constituencies. Nevertheless, our records show that the total value of major building projects started at secondary schools in the Macclesfield district of Cheshire, which is almost conterminal with the constituency, in each of the last five financial years was as follows:
£ 1973–74 408,000 1974–75 965,000 1975–76 129,000 1976–77 872,000 1977–78 944,000 In addition, minor building projects may have been started, but these cannot be identified.
In the current financial year the authority is not expected to use any of its block allocation for major projects at secondary schools in the Macclesfield district, but a sum of about £170,000 has been allocated from the special programme to assist reorganisation.
