HC Deb 20 July 1978 vol 954 c386W
Mr. Clemitson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what was the total amount paid out in family income supplement in the last week for which figures are available; and what was the size of the median payment;

(2) how many people were in receipt of family income supplement at the last date for which figures are available.

Mr. Orme

I regret that the information is not available in the precise form requested. However, at the end of April 1978, 96,000 families were receiving family income supplement, with an average weekly payment of £5.58; and on this basis the total amount payable for the last week in April would have been about £536,000.
