§ Mr. DeakinsThere is now no such category of staff as child welfare officers working for local authorities. Social workers employed by local authorities deal generically with all types of clients, although there may be some specialisation where this is considered necessary. In the 10 metropolitan districts of 251W the Greater Manchester county, the numbers of social workers employed at 30th September 1977 were as follows. Provisional figures are expressed as whole-time equivalent.
