HC Deb 17 July 1978 vol 954 cc90-1W
Mr. Litterick

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his Department's latest estimate of the cost per gallon of eliminating tetra ethyel lead from petroleum fuel produced in British refineries.

Mr. William Rodgers

I have been asked to reply.

No estimate has so far been made of the costs of completely eliminating lead from petrol. But these would be substantial and would include additional imports of crude fuel, investment in new processing facilities, and the costs of modifying vericles to enable them to use leadless petrol.
