HC Deb 14 July 1978 vol 953 c823W
Mr. Lawrence

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proportion of the average daily consumption of drinking water in the United Kingdom has had fluoride added to it by water authorities.

Mr. Denis Howell

I have been asked to reply.

It is not possible to provide a meaningful average figure for the whole country. In those areas which receive fluoridated water all the water consumed will have had fluoride added while elsewhere it is nil. About 9 per cent. of the population of England receives fluoridated water, the average consumption of drinking water being 1 to 1½ litres per head per day.
