HC Deb 13 July 1978 vol 953 cc748-9W
Mr. Welsh

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what are the estimated costs so far of implementing the provisions of the Control of Pollution Act 1974; and if he will distinguish between local and central Government costs;

(2) how many sections of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 remain to be implemented; and if he is satisfied with the operation of this measure.

Mr. Michael Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many sections of the Control of Pollution Act remain to be implemented; and what proposals he has for their implementation.

Mr. Denis Howell

Six sections of Part I and 20 sections of Part II have not yet been implemented. I announced the Government's plans for implementing these sections in reply to my right hon. Friend the Member for Jarrow (Mr. Ferny-hough) on 13th April. I am generally satisfied with the operation of the Act, but I shall be better satisfied when all its provisions are in force. I regret that the information on costs is not readily available.
