HC Deb 13 July 1978 vol 953 c677W
Mr. Welsh

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many sections of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 remain to be implemented in Scotland; and if he will give figures to show the costs so far incurred by local and central Government in carrying out the provisions of the Act.

Mr. McElhone

Of 99 sections of the Act which apply to Scotland, 45 are fully in force, 11 are partly in force, and one comes into force on 1st September. The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities and the Scottish River Purification Boards Association have been asked for their views on commencement of the provisions of Part II—Pollution of Water. Estimates of the cost incurred so far are not available.
