Mr. Wm. Rossasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what studies have been made of reclaiming land from 549W Lough Foyle; how much land it is estimated as being possible to reclaim by modern methods; and what would be the estimated cost.
§ Mr. DunnNo recent detailed studies on reclamation of land from Lough Foyle have been undertaken. A superficial examination of the area in 1973 indicated that while land of reasonable agricultural potential could be reclaimed the cost was likely to be well above the value of the land and the work would have had a detrimental effect on the fishing and other amenities of the area.
