HC Deb 07 July 1978 vol 953 cc320-1W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he is satisfied with the antenatal care provided to pregnant women in Northern Ireland; what assistance is available to enable pregnant women to attend antenatal clinics; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Carter,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 5th July 1978; Vol. 953, c. 231], gave the following information:

Antenatal care provided in Northern Ireland is of a high standard, and the Department of Health and Social Services gives priority to maintaining and improving care and guidance for pregnant women. The provision of antenatal facilities by general medical practitioners and health and social services boards is widespread, and in general it has not been found to be necessary to provide special assistance to enable pregnant women to attend antenatal clinics.
