asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many policemen have been murdered in the course of their duties in England and Wales during each of the past 10 years.

In a case of homicide it is not possible in the absence of a court decision to distinguish between offences of murder and manslaughter. The following table gives the available information:

Departmental records are not kept in a way which would enable the other statistics requested to be obtained without disproportionate expenditure.
