§ 40. Mr. Litterickasked the Secretary of State for Employment what is his Department's estimate of the employment consequences of the proposed steel plant closures in the West Midlands Region.
§ Mr. GoldingAny loss of jobs at steel plants in the West Midlands would be bound to make the employment situation in the region more difficult, though it is not possible to make a realistic estimate of the extent to which this would be reflected in increased unemployment. All the facilities of the Manpower Services Commission will, of course, be available to help any of the workers affected find new jobs or train for alternative employment.
