HC Deb 30 January 1978 vol 943 c26W
Mr. Cormack

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the loss to the Revenue if all widows in receipt of State pensions were allowed to earn (a) £2,000, (b) £2,500 and (c) £3,000 per annum before their pensions were taken into account for tax purposes.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

For widows aged under 65 years, (a) about £35 million; (b) about £45 million; (c) about £50 million.

If this were to apply also to widows aged over 65 years, there would be an extra cost in each case of about £75 million.
