§ Mr. Moonmanasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people are currently taking courses at Government training centres in Essex as a whole and in Basildon and Billericay in particular; and how this compares with the period 1975 to 1977.
§ Mr. GoldingI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that 234 people were undergoing training under the training opportunities scheme in skillcentres—formerly GTCs—in Essex on 19th December 1977. 156 of these were in training in the Basildon and Billericay area. These figures form the latest reliable information available. Comparable figures are given below:
