HC Deb 30 January 1978 vol 943 cc35-6W
Mr. Stoddart

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what studies she has commissioned or supported to ascertain whether the withdrawal of free school milk for primary schoolchildren over the age of 7 years has had a detrimental effect on their health, particularly in respect of bone formation, teeth and body lead levels.

Miss Margaret Jackson

A study has been commissioned by a sub-committee of the committee which advises my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services on medical aspects of food policy to determine the effect on the growth rate of 7- and 8-year-old children of school milk. The study has at least another year to run.
