HC Deb 30 January 1978 vol 943 c13W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if, in the light of the high level of unemployment in the town of Kirkby, he will take steps to locate Government work in the town.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

Whilst there are no plans to locate Government work in Kirkby, the Merseyside Special Development Area will have benefited by up to 8,500 Civil Service posts from the policies of dispersal and the setting up of new work away from London, when currently planned projects, including the programme announced by the Government on 30th July 1974, are completed. I repeat the assurance that I gave my hon. Friend on 27th April 1977—[Vol. 930, c. 315–16]—that in any future location decisions the interests of Kirkby, as well as those of other areas, will be borne in mind.
