HC Deb 30 January 1978 vol 943 cc67-8W
Mr. Wm Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many stray dogs were seized and detained, and then sold and destroyed by the Royal Ulster Constabulary in 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977; and what were the total fees charged to the owners for this service.

Mr. Dunn

Records relating to the seizure and detention of stray dogs are not maintained centrally, and the information requested is not, therefore, readily available. Dogs seized by the RUC are handed over to the Ulster Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which arranges for them to be placed or destroyed if they remain unclaimed.
