HC Deb 30 January 1978 vol 943 c39W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will institute a public inquiry into the proposal by the Southern Water Authority to get under way a drainage scheme which would affect the wetlands at Amberley Wildbrooks, West Sussex, by drastically altering both the water table and the landscape, since the River Arun's flood plain has great scientific value at the haunt of Bewick's swans, widgeon, teal, shovellers and other wild life, and since the Nature Conservancy Council is proposing to designate 600 acres of the area as an official site of scientific interest.

Mr. Strang

My right hon. Friend the Minister has already decided that a public inquiry should be held into this proposal. Arrangements are being made for it to take place at Arundel towards the end of March.
