§ 32. Mr. Higginsasked the Secretary of State for Employment why he decided Monday 2nd January 1978, rather than Friday 30th December 1977, should be taken as a Bank Holiday in lieu of Sunday 1st January 1978.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerThe decision was taken after consultation with the TUC, the CBI, the British Bankers' Association, the Retail Consortium and the British Tourist Authority and following representations from a number of other organisations and individuals. These showed, on balance, a preference for the designation of Monday 2nd January as the New Year Bank Holiday.
