§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will state the nature of his representations on the wage settlement by the Retail Food Trades Wages Council for England and Wales in excess of the Government's 10 per cent. guideline and their results; and whether the Government will include the 445W firms which pay this money on their blacklist of firms which have failed to honour the Government's 10 per cent. guideline.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerThe Council was told that its proposals could not be reconciled with the guidelines and asked to reconsider them. It did so, but decided to confirm its proposals. On the second part of the Question, any employer who does no more than is necessary to comply with a wages order is fulfilling a statutory obligation and is, therefore, not in breach of the guidelines.
