§ Mr. Molloyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in the light of the correspondence between the Leader of the Greater London Council and the hon. Member for Ealing, North, a copy of which has been sent to him, he remains satisfied with the powers of local authorities under Section 138 of the Local Government Act 1972 to assist those who have suffered from natural disasters in their areas.

Friend when he helpfully brought a deputation to see me on this subject, I am satisfied that local authorities, including the Greater London Council, possess adequate powers under Section 138 of the Local Government Act 1972 to help those who suffer from emergencies or disasters in their area.
