HC Deb 19 January 1978 vol 942 cc348-9W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will set up an inquiry into the threat to village ponds, some 100,000 of which have disappeared since the war, since of the remaining 200,000 village ponds 100 disappear each week.

Mr. Marks

We are aware of the valuable work being done through the "Save the Village Pond Campaign" but we have not received any representations from those involved, or anybody else, suggesting that an inquiry is needed.

I am asking the Nature Conservancy Council for its views. The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers will be taking over the works and records of the campaign.
