Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science and I are still exploring with the local authority associations the possibilities of introducing more acceptable arrangements for school transport. In the meantime it is for each authority to determine in the light of its local circumstances what arrangements should be made for school transport and if these arrangements should be more generous than those required by statute.
