HL Deb 17 January 1978 vol 388 c87WA
Lord DUNLEATH

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many claims have been received by the Department of the Environment in respect of personal injury caused by ill-maintained roads and footpaths coupled with inadequate street lighting within the City boundary of Belfast; in how many cases the courts have determined in favour of the claimant; and what is the total amount of compensation that has had to be paid as a result.

The MINISTER of STATE, NORTHERN IRELAND OFFICE (Lord Melchett)

In 1977 the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland received seven claims for personal injury, for the area within the City boundary of Belfast, where inadequate street lighting has been mentioned as a contributory factor; none of these claims has yet been settled. Statistics for earlier years are not readily available.
