§ Mr. Ovendenasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what discussions he has had with representatives of Motability about the categories of disabled people who will be eligible for assistance under the car-leasing scheme; and if he is satisfied that assistance will be available to people who do not qualify for mobility allowance.
§ Mr. EnnalsAs I made clear in my statement in the House on 6th December—[Vol. 940, c. 1124–391]—questions such as this will be for Motability itself to decide. My Department is, however, keeping in close touch with Motability in the planning of its operations, and I understand that no decisions have yet been taken on whether or when it will be possible to offer help to people who are not receiving mobility allowance. I am assured that Motability will announce its intentions as soon as the necessary planning has been completed.
