Mr. Edwin Wainwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in the light of the danger to the public caused by young people using skateboards on public footpaths and highways, he will now give financial assistance to 759W those local authorities which are building or intend to build special grounds for this new recreation.
§ Mr. Denis HowellThe Sports Council has issued preliminary guidance to local authorities on the design and management of skateboard facilities and has power to grant them aid if it wishes to do so. However, recreational provision is for local authorities to provide for their citizens and for which Government support is made through the rate support grant.
