HC Deb 28 February 1978 vol 945 cc116-7W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what action he proposes to take following the publication of the report of the Working Party on Water Safety; and if he will now make a statement;

(2) whether, in view of the fact that more injuries are incurred by swimmers than in any other sport, he will now take steps to implement the recommendations contained in the report of the Working Party on Water Safety and, in particular, paragraphs 38 to 43.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

When the report of the Working Party on Water Safety was published on 26th October last, I said, in reply to a Question by my hon. and learned Friend the Member for Abertillery (Mr. Thomas)—[Vol. 936, c. 786–7] —that the Government would examine the working party's proposals and that a further statement would be made in due course. The examination of the working party's proposals is not yet complete and I cannot at present add to the reply I gave on 26th October.
