§ Mr. Leeasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will institute an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Mr. Geoffrey Harry Elliott, acquitted last week at Leeds Crown Court of rape, after another person had confessed to the crime alleged against him; and if he will review the workings of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act in the light of this case.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesThe Chief Constable of the West Yorkshire Metropolitan Police has ordered an investigation into this case, and I am asking him for a report. I keep under review the workings of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1976.
