HC Deb 27 February 1978 vol 945 c92W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the total strength of the Regular and Reserve Army referred to in paragraph 207 of Command Paper No. 7099.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

For the strength of the Regular Army I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave on 16th February—[Vol. 944, c.367]. The strength of the Reserve Army at 1st January 1978 was Regular Reserves: 116,800 TAVR: 60,700. The proportion of the Regular and Reserve Army which would, on mobilisation, be deployed to the European mainland is calculated from totals which exclude juniors, recruits under training, and reservists whom it is not planned to call out.
