HC Deb 27 February 1978 vol 945 cc106-7W
Mr. Churchill

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many increases, and of what percentages, there have been in foreign service allowances for members of the foreign service in the Federal Republic of Germany since 1st April 1976.

Mr. Tomlinson

The rates of local allowance, which is the equivalent of Foreign Service allowance, payable to members of the Diplomatic Service in the Federal Republic of Germany have since 1st April 1976 been increased on four occasions to take account of movements in the exchange rate, salary changes or changes in the local cost of living. The percentage increases are as follows:

Date Grade* Married Per cent. Single Per cent.
June 1976 DS5 26 12
DS10 7 12
August 1976 DS5 2 6
DS10 4 6
November 1976 DS5 24.5 47
DS10 21 33
February 1977 DS5 14 22
DS10 10 13
* Grade DS4 receives the same rate of local allowance as Grade DS5.

The rates for Grades DS6–9 are calculated by interpolation.
