HC Deb 27 February 1978 vol 945 c89W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence why he will not reconsider his decision to disband the Army youth teams in order to save the 390 soldiers enrolled, having regard to his subsequent decision to reduce his planned cuts in the strength of the Army.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

The reduction in planned cuts in the strength of the Army is to compensate for the effects of continuing emergency commitments, especially in Northern Ireland. This reduction in no way changes the fact that the trained manpower of the Army youth teams is urgently required in areas of higher military priority and can no longer be spared to staff the teams.
