§ Mr. Canavanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will institute an inquiry into the organisation of the wheelchair service in Scotland.
§ Mr. MillanI have arranged for this subject to be referred to the next meeting, on 28th February, of the committee of the Scottish Health Service Planning Council concerned with aids for the disabled and to let me have a report later this year. The Committee will be asked to review the current arrangements for the recommendation, prescription, supply, repair and maintenance of wheelchairs, having regard to public expenditure constraints. The review will cover not only the arrangements for the recommendation, prescription and supply of standard wheelchairs but those for special or adapted wheelchairs for patients who are unable to benefit from standard wheel-chairs.
