HC Deb 20 February 1978 vol 944 c517W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the amount of direct taxation paid by a married man with two children aged 10 and 13 years earning £7,000, assuming he has a monthly mortgage payment of £60 and he and his wife have no other sources of income.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

£1,504.16 for 1977–78.

It has been assumed that the whole of the mortgage payment relates to interest and is allowable as a deduction against income.
