§ Mr. MoyleA meeting was convened on 13th February between officers of the Liverpool Area Health Authority (Teaching) and organisations representing Health Service staff in the area, for the purpose of discussing the recommendations of the committee of inquiry into Liverpool's health services which reported to the Mersey Regional Health Authority on 19th January.
The staff representatives informed the management side that they were not prepared to proceed with the discussions unless a guarantee were given that there would be no redundancies among staff in the area. As any such guarantee would have required the specific approval of the area health authority, the meeting was adjourned pending the management's reply.
§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what consultations have taken place with trades unions concerning the staffing of the new Royal Liverpool Teaching Hospital.
§ Mr. MoyleThe Liverpool Area Health Authority (Teaching) has agreed with the unions concerned on the constitution of five working parties to consider staff levels in each discipline. Two of these working parties, for professional and technical staff and certain categories of works staff, have now started work and it is intended that the others should meet soon.
§ Mr. Parryasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he can now give the official opening date of the new Royal Liverpool Teaching Hospital.
§ Mr. MoyleI would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Basildon (Mr. Moonman) on 9th December 1977.—[Vol. 940, c.919.]
