Ministry of Defence staff restaurants, in common with all other Civil Service staff restaurants throughout the country, are provided free of charge with premises, equipment and services.

Each restaurant is currently entitled to a graduated subsidy designed to encourage efficiency. In addition some units, mainly industrial ones, receive reimbursement for special operating expenses. The cost of these cash subsidies and the contribution made by employees is set out below:

The RAF stations at Greenham Common, Sculthorpe and Wethersfield are maintained as Standby Deployment Bases for use by units of the United States Air Force.
