Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if the British Government will recognise Rhodesia in the event of a settlement being reached to the mutual satisfaction and agreement of the Rhodesian Government and Bishop Muzorewa.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are the current duties of Field Marshal Lord Carver in connection with Rhodesia.

Mr. Rowlands

Field Marshal Lord Carver is Resident Commissioner (Designate) for Southern Rhodesia. His duties include planning for a cease fire, the future of the armed forces and all aspects of the transition period as envisaged in the Anglo-American proposals. To this end he has been holding discussions with the parties concerned.
