HC Deb 20 February 1978 vol 944 cc541-2W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, in the light of the fact that Orchard Caravans Ltd., Belfast, has issued rules which are in breach of consumer legislation, what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Concannon

It is assumed that the Question refers to the exclusion from liability clause included in the rules of Orchard Caravans Ltd. The Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977, which came into operation on 1st February 1978, places specific restrictions on the circumstances in which such clauses can be an effective means of avoiding civil liability for breach of contract or negligence. The attention of the company will be drawn to these provisions.
