§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many adults were receiving mobility allowance in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and each English region, respectively, at the last date for which figures are available; and if he will express each figure per 1,000 adult population;
(2) how many children were receiving mobility allowance in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and each English region, respectively, at the last date for which figures are available; and if he will express each figure per 1,000 child population.
§ Mr. Alfred MorrisMobility allowance statistics show only the number of awards in each region and do not distinguish between child and adult beneficiaries except in Northern Ireland. On that basis, the latest figures available are:
Hospital on 10th February. I was impressed with it as a physical facility for the practice of modem medicine potentially available to the Health Service in Liverpool. I had discussions with the Chairman of the Mersey Regional Health Authority, with members of the Liverpool Area Health Authority (Teaching) and with representatives of Health Service staff. I was informed of initial reactions 487W to the recommendations of the committee of inquiry, chaired by Professor Roger Dyson, to which I referred in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Liverpool, Garston (Mr. Loyden) on 10th November 1977—[Vol. 938, c. 202–3]—and which reported to the regional health authority on 19th January 1978. I impressed on those I met my concern that the report should be regarded as a constructive contribution to reducing current difficulties. The main responsibility for considering the report and for deciding on action to be taken rests with the regional and area health authorities, and the regional health authority will be reporting on the outcome to my right hon. Friend.
