Mr. Prescott

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many fishermen are presently unemployed nationally; and at which principal fishing ports.

Mr. Golding

At 10th November 1977, the latest date for which the quarterly industrial analysis is available, 3,274 people were registered as unemployed in Great Britain who last worked in the fishing industry. In addition, 2,862 people in this industry who were temporarily stopped at the date of the count are not included in the unemployment statistics. The following table gives the employment office areas most affected and the numbers at each.
