asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many persons are employed in local government and in the Civil Service with salaries of £12,000 per annum and above.

This information is not available in my Department but I am sure that in the case of local government it would be supplied on request to the hon. Member by the Local Authorities' Conditions of Service Advisory Board.

Information on salaries in the Civil Service is a matter for the Civil Service Department.
