asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many motor cars in the 12-month period ending 31st December 1977:

  1. (a) were offered for test under the provisions of the Motor Vehicle (Test) Regulations 1976;
  2. (b) failed this test as shown in the Motor Vehicle Test Registers as tabulated in the summary of the inspection sheets VT 29 and the reasons for failure as shown in that summary;
  3. (c) were passed and issued with certificate VT 20;
  4. (d) failed and were issued with certificate VT 21;
  5. (e) failed and were issued with certificate VT 22;
  6. (f) were offered for re-test; and what were the comparable figures for the preceding year.
