HC Deb 15 February 1978 vol 944 c254W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made in easing congestion and delays in the sheriff courts.

Mr. Harry Ewing

Most sheriff courts are disposing of their business without undue delay, albeit sometimes under difficulty, but there are a few courts where waiting lists are lengthy. Where necessary, more sheriffs and staff are being provided, and the general programme of improving, extending and replacing court houses is well under way. I am confident of steady improvement in the situation over the next 12 months.
