HC Deb 15 February 1978 vol 944 cc228-9W
Mr. Molyneaux

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether the rents of Northern Ireland Housing Executive houses are to be increased during the current year; and, if so, by what amount.

Mr. Carter

The Green Paper on Housing Policy (Mmnd. 6851) expressed the Government's view that over a run of years rents should keep broadly in line with changes in money incomes. It has, therefore, been agreed that in 1978–79 the rents of Housing Executive dwellings should be increased by around 10 per cent., which means an average of 40p per week. The Executive wishes, for administrative reasons, to make the rent increase in July rather than April, and, in order to achieve the necessary rental income for the full year, this will mean that the average increases from July will be 55p per week.
