asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has had over Orkney rate support; and what reply he has sent.

Orkney Islands Council wrote me in January about issues affecting the rating of oil installations in Orkney and the effect there of general revaluation. I have explained that increases in rateable value are generally matched by a reduction in resources element. I have also invited the council to submit as soon as possible any information indicating that grant towards oil-related expenditure should be set at a higher level than previously proposed.
