HC Deb 15 February 1978 vol 944 c259W
Mr. John Ellis

asked the Minister of Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he has reached a conclusion in the light of his consultations on the recommendations of the representative working group set up to examine the future relationships of environmental health officers, meat inspectors and veterinary surgeons in the field of meat and meat products hygiene.

Mr. John Silkin

My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and for Social Services and I have considered the opposing representations received on these recommendations. We have concluded that the recommendations provide a reasonable and workable compromise and we propose to adopt them for purposes of future action. Copies of the recommendations are available in the Library of the House.

I am garteful to the members of the working group for their commonsense approach to this problem area and hope that the group will continue to be of service both to Departments and to the disciplines that are represented in its membership.
